At long last I am retired. Now I am entitled to write N. Sankara Menon ICS(retd). In the old days ICS meant Indian Civil service and I do not think any dodo with ICS(retd) exists anymore. So I am making a new bigining by writing ICS(Retd) after my name. The difference? I stands for International and NOT Indian.
And what a homecoming it was!!!! Two aunts and an uncle decided to take leave within a gap of 10 days!! The result? from 3 May to 12 May I was busy with the rituals connected with death. The number of people who know what to do and more importantly WHY are coming down despite the fact that youngsters are becoming more religious.
What to do in retirement? I have no idea. Write something that you know about and many do not? a possiblity. I have to explore. Two books (one for private circulation only) are on the anvil. Lets see whether I complete them!! I also have plans to do a Tanjore painting that I want to make a museum piece. Hope I succeed!! Then prayers and rituals. I think I have my hands full.
I have pet views and theories on what happens all round the world. Because of insider info. I may step on other feet. And I have my wife, daughters and son-in-law ever ready to censor my musings. The issue is should I let them or should I declare from the rooftops "the emperor has no clothes". I do not know!! I will take a call on that sooner or later.
Thats on political issues. Of course I have no interest in being made a wajib-ul-quatl.
On religious issues i can dissert without stepping on too many toes. Maybe I should limit myself to that? I should meditate, do yoga and whatnot.
This is the real beginning.
